Restaurant Marketing: You wouldn’t think you’d ever come across a
strange tasting, strange looking cheesesteak in Philadelphia, but I
did. First, having lived in Philly for over 6 years, I can surely tell
the difference between a “real” cheesesteak and one that’s “unreal”.
During a layover in the Philadelphia airport, I went into Chickie & Pete’s.
The menu said, “A REAL Philly cheesesteak made by real Philadelphians.”
Sounded great, so far… but far from it. They brought out a cheesesteak
sandwich in a roll that wasn’t even truly Italian. It had seeds in it.
It was like Quiznos. I spoke to the manager about the bread and he even
agreed with me that the best cheesesteaks are in the Amoroso’s Italian
rolls. Everyone knows that.
So, Chickie & Pete’s, I wouldn’t call your cheesesteaks “a REAL Philly cheesesteak.”.
